Ice Excavating

I'd been saving this project for awhile, waiting for the perfect time to bring it out.  Last week the kiddos were getting antsy (and I was getting short-tempered) so I figured it'd be a good time to move things outside and give the boys hammers, screwdrivers, and some other tools.  Last month I had entombed some of the kids' toys in blocks of ice.  Their mission was to free the toys.  I thought Ben would be all over this project, but it was Owen that really got into it.

Ben loved using the spray bottle, but I think the scattering of ice fragments kinda freaked him out.

Owen experimented with salt, water, hammer, screwdriver and combinations of those.  He deemed the hammer/screwdriver combination to most effective in freeing the toys.

Owen the ice master!
